Michael J. Zwicky

 

Michael J. Zwicky played his first professional gig at the age of 15, and has been performing as a drummer, vocalist and guitarist in many venues ever since. A versatile artist , Michael graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Madison with bachelor's degree in painting and sculpture, as well as pursuing his music career, playing extensively in Madison area bands. After spending many years on the gritty New York City music scene playing in various bands and recording, Michael returned to his native state of Wisconsin. Michael's band "Demo Moe", an original underground band received major reviews in the Village Voice and SPIN magazine. The album "Demolish NYC" was chosen by SPIN as one of the best 80 albums of the 80's. Other New York credits include CD's and singles with "The Billy Syndrome", the "Thundering Lizards of Love", "Shell*Shock", and the punk band "Critter".

Since returning to the area Michael has been very busy performing and teaching music here in Wisconsin. He has played extensively in the region, opening for national acts in such major venues as "Country USA", "CountryFest" in Cadott and; and the "Hodag Festival". Other local gigs have included the bands "Junk Science", "The Arrangement", "The Jazz Orgy"; the club acts "Mr. Vargus", "Big Badda Boom" and "US". Michael has also played for local theatre productions at the "Grand Opera House" and has played for the last two years in productions with the "Oshkosh Youth Choir". He has presented and lead "Rhythmic Relief", a drum circle in conjunction with the music department at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and has presented and performed extensively in local elementary and middle schools. More recently and currently Michael holds the drum chair for the "Spirit of Hope Band", a contemporary worship group at the First English Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. As well as drumming for "Spirit of Hope" he sings and has played guitar, bass, banjo and mandolin. Michael can be seen playing there every Sunday @ 10:30 am.

Michael also owns and operates "The LessonWorks Studio" a multi-purpose music facility here in Oshkosh. An expression of Michael's life long dedication to the arts, LessonWorks has been serving Oshkosh families and musicians since 2005. A professional music instructor for over 15 years with over 30 years in the music industry, Michael is well equipped to guide students of any age into the world of Music. Maintaining a roster of 30-35 students, his straight-forward approach to teaching music has been described by students and parents as "professional", "effective" and "fun". Lessons with Michael are tailored to suit the individual's tastes, personalities, needs and goals. Using a methodical approach, his lessons employ the latest computer aided technologies blended with a strong foundation in technique and reading music. A creative problem solver, Michael can help musicians of any caliber improve their playing and maximize their potential.
